Battlefield 6's Casual Game Mode Sparks Heated Discussions Regarding Bots, XP Rewards, and Queue Times
Recently, Battlefield Studios launched a fresh playlist called Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this option mirrors the standard Breakthrough format but includes several key adjustments:
- Every squad includes just 8 human participants, with the remaining made up of AI-controlled opponents.
- Actions done by human gamers grant full XP, while AI activities provide reduced XP.
- Only two maps can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
- Features like Player tags, accolades, and career stat updates are disabled.
So essentially, this mode delivers on its title: it offers a laid-back take of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume there's nothing wrong, as it gives additional choices for gamers seeking alternative methods to have fun with the title. However, gaming history have taught us anything, it's that not everyone will be happy. In other words, many BF6 fans are upset.
Player Reactions: Anger to Support
"People want human opponents. Avoid making the mistakes of your competitors," reads a response to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing idea," says a different user. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player remarks, "It's unclear where we are going with this game," and someone else details everything they consider to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."
However, amid the criticism, there are players sharing how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to practice, human participants prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," reads one Reddit comment. "The community fails to see that there are players who actually go outside and can't play this title all the time. Allow them to find a middle ground," states another. A response on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is perfect for me," and another praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Constructive Concerns and Community Feedback
Despite the support, there are constructive reasons to criticize Casual Breakthrough. Some users have pointed out that it will make wait times more extended for other modes because of the large amount of playlists in the game already. Similarly, certain regions already encounter AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a required amount of human gamers, despite it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.
Finally, one of the biggest grievances is that Battlefield Portal was meant to provide complete rewards, including AI matches, but that was removed when they tried to eliminate bot farms from the mode. Thus Casual Breakthrough feels like the player base meeting them in the middle, as per a Reddit comment. Another labels this addition as the devs "dropping the ball so hard, I had great enjoyment in the initial release, what prompted them to adjust it?"
Looking Ahead: Adjustments Occur?
Should Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something to date with the latest installment, it's that they're paying attention and acting on player input. Assignments being too difficult were adjusted rapidly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, should analytics indicates this new playlist is underperforming to their standards, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
