One of the original creators of the well-known frozen dessert company Ben and Jerry's has stated that parent company Unilever blocked the introduction for an innovative pro-Palestinian frozen dessert product.

Ben Cohen, that established the business alongside Jerry Greenfield, revealed that he plans to personally create the controversial flavor as part of an individual collection showcasing issues Ben & Jerry's has been barred from speaking out about.

Ongoing Dispute Involving Founders and Corporate Owner

This latest development escalates the continuing disagreement between the world-famous ice cream maker and its corporate parent, the British consumer goods giant that acquired Ben & Jerry's for over two decades.

The co-founders have claimed that Unilever along with its ice cream arm the Magnum brand unlawfully blocked their company against "fulfilling its ethical commitments".

The Fruit Sorbet becoming a Symbol for Solidarity

The entrepreneur revealed through an Instagram video that he's developing an innovative watermelon-flavored frozen dessert, asking for public suggestions regarding naming options plus additional components.

“I'm doing what they couldn't,” the founder stated from his kitchen. “I'm making a watermelon-based frozen dessert that calls for lasting ceasefire for Palestinians and calls for repairing the damage that occurred in the region.”

The watermelon has become a symbol for support for Palestinians due to its colors, that mirror those of Palestine's national banner – the distinctive four-color pattern.

Historical Social Engagement and Recent Changes

Several years ago, the ice cream company refused to sell their merchandise in territories under Israeli control, resulting in the parent company transferring their Israel business over to a local licensee, thus allowing ongoing distribution within the occupied West Bank.

The new dessert series will be developed under Ben's Best, the socially conscious dessert company that originally created in 2016 to support former political contender Senator Sanders with the product "Bernie's Return".

Management Shifts and Future Plans

The founder revealed how he will create additional frozen dessert varieties that address issues that the company was silenced from addressing publicly due to Unilever.

The announcement comes after partner Mr. Greenfield stepped down his position at the company in September, after many years of involvement, mentioning worries that its independence was compromised following Unilever's decision to curb its social activism.

Previously, Mr. Cohen remarked that "Jerry has a really big heart and this conflict with our parent company was deeply distressing him."

"My heart leads me to keep working inside the company to advocate for corporate autonomy so that it can actualise its ethical purpose, the principles that established its foundation and has maintained for over 40 years," he told journalists.
