Iran Claims Strike on US Base in Bahrain, During Widespread Military Operations.
Iranian forces say they have struck a American military facility in Manama, as Iran launched operations across the region in retaliation for a large-scale and continuing offensive against it by the US and Israel.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an zone close to the headquarters of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The extent of any damage is uncertain and the US has yet to issue a statement.
Regional Interceptions
In other parts of the Middle East, the UAE, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - each hosting US military bases - said they have shot down incoming projectiles in their airspace.
In the Qatari capital, the Qatari Ministry of Defence said it had successfully engaged several missiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.
IRGC Statement
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) declared it was targeting American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the attack on the Islamic Republic launched by the US and Israel on Saturday.
That preceding assault - launched at around 06:15 GMT - has so far targeted areas linked to the the regime, with US President Donald Trump urging the people of Iran to rise up against the regime.
Regional Fallout
In Israel, sirens were heard across the country after the Israeli military reported it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The Ministry of Defence of the UAE said in a statement that the nation has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems responded to the missiles with great effectiveness and destroyed a series of missiles," the statement continued.
Officials reported missile fragments fell on a neighborhood in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some structural damage and killing a civilian.
The United States Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
