Manchester United Set to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.

A Major Signing for United

The forward, with half a year left on her deal, has been a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing will be seen as a major signing for the WSL team.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated after she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top forwards. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.

Reliable Goalscoring to Boost the Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a significant uplift to the team's attacking options. She has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United appear to be building positive momentum.

Their recent performances feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought additional business:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's extension, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having joined from a side from the American league, said: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
