New York Jets Head Coach Aaron Glenn Optimistic Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After New York City Incident

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn revealed that he recently spoke with defensive back Kris Boyd and believes the athlete will recover well after being shot in midtown Manhattan in the early hours of Sunday.

Glenn noted that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “upbeat” during their latest talk.

“That’s what eases my mind, is that his mood is upbeat,” Glenn commented. “His wife and child, they’re in good spirits and he will come through this without issue.”

The coach did not know when Boyd might be released the hospital, where he is reported as serious yet stable.

“Not certain at the moment,” Glenn remarked. “Yet I must mention, just talking to him, he seemed very positive. And again, that’s what gives me comfort, given his positive frame of mind and he’s talking that way.”

Authorities shared security footage Monday of a suspect in the attack on the player. What prompted the attack is currently under review and authorities said it remains uncertain if Boyd was singled out. No other injuries were reported.

The shooting happened around 2 a.m. on Sunday morning in the area between Madison Square Garden and Times Square. Boyd, 29, was transported to Bellevue Hospital after being shot in the abdomen, as reported. The perpetrator got away.

Glenn mentioned Boyd has been on his mind “a great deal” since he heard about the shooting. He further stated that Boyd and his wife recently welcomed a baby.

“What immediately crossed my mind, he just had a kid,” Glenn said. “And I’m thinking about his wife, worrying about his newborn and my priority is his well-being. That was my main concern.
“A certain process is underway, which I won’t get into, but It is reassuring that he will recover excellently.”

Boyd hasn’t played during the current season, his first with the Jets, after his season was cut short due to injury on August 18 with a shoulder injury that needed an operation.

He joined the Jets as a free agent in spring and was anticipated to become a key part of an improved special teams group under the coach and special teams coordinator the special teams coach. However, he got hurt during preseason drills on 2 August and was taken away on a cart.

Boyd continued to be present throughout the season while healing from his surgery.

“He remains involved with our activities,” Glenn stated. “Certainly, he is a regular at our matches. He’s fully engaged. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.”

Boyd, from Texas, spent his initial four years with Minnesota after being a seventh-round pick by the Vikings out of Texas University in the 2019 draft. He joined the Arizona Cardinals in last year and then joined Houston’s practice squad after that. Boyd signed a one-year contract for $1.6 million with the Jets in March.
