Norris Tops Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
Lando Norris has beaten his teammate at each of the last five grands prix.
The McLaren driver edged out fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the quickest lap in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who took the championship lead from Piastri by one point after his victory in Mexico City recently, outpaced the Australian by a mere 0.023s.
Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair during the running before sprint qualifying due at 6:30 PM GMT.
Max Verstappen, the other racer in realistic title contention, sitting 36 points Norris, finished in 17th place as his Red Bull team opted for a unique setup.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to go off, though minor, when he rotated at corner four early in the session.
The Japanese lost control over the exit kerbs before spinning across the run-off area, and was blessed to escape with just a light touch of the barrier.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the conclusion of the session, rotating twice through the quick descending Mergulho turn before the last turn on to the start-finish straight.
The seven-time champion finished practice in P19, trailing team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren drivers were far ahead of the rest of the field, with the German's car P3, 0.619secs off Piastri's pace.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was in fourth, with Sauber's Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of George Russell and Alpine's Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
