Nineteen of the Russian's 21 championships have been won on hard surfaces

A resurgent Medvedev claimed his first title for over two years with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The Russian, a former world number one, has had a challenging year, managing just one match at the major tournaments and undergoing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

His unpredictability on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serve in specific - caused him dropping out of the elite rankings and ultimately parting ways with long-term trainer his previous coach.

Now working with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily advanced in the recent weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought competitive triumph over opponent Moutet.

This represents the player's first title since the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hardcourt since March of that year.

Success also indicates he has secured twenty-one titles at twenty-one distinct events.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a tournament with my both daughters together, so to win a title is especially meaningful," said world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in tribute of my younger daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I achieved when my child her name was born was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had failed in his past six championship matches, featuring in the German tournament previously this season.

The player's defensive strategy and regular outbursts on the tennis court had caused commentators to doubt if his ability to perform at the elite level was finished.

However the athlete has implemented adjustments in the past month, striving to come to the net and play positively, supported by an enhanced serving game.

The champion fought back from a break down in the opening set against the tricky Frenchman, securing four of the final five games to gain the advantage.

The pair exchanged service breaks in the middle set before the challenger, attempting for his maiden tour championship, gained dominance to push for a third set.

The opponent saved four early-game opportunities in a tight deciding set before Medvedev won the break to 15 to serve for the match.

Appropriately, Medvedev earned the title with a point at the net area, with the Frenchman incapable to handle a return after over two and a half hours.
