The young full-back A further composed showing by the youngster after his initial appearance against Serbia. A teammate was unable to take full advantage of a clever touch behind their defense. The role is his to lose at this stage. Seven

Adam Wharton A debut start in an England shirt. Slightly loose in possession but his dangerous deliveries posed a danger. A handy pace-controller for the coach to call upon versus teams who drop deep. Shown a yellow for a poorly timed foul. Six

The midfielder Set-pieces from dead balls and set-plays created chances. Had license to roam down the left flank but was in an offside position upon receiving in front of goal. Given a merited rest on the hour mark. 6/10

The star midfielder Functioned in a forward position down the right while also put in the hard yards. Demonstrated glimpses of brilliance and mishit an attempt wide. Replaced in the closing stages by Rogers, a fellow player, after receiving a caution. 7/10

Jarrod Bowen Had England’s top opening in the opening period, his effort excellently kept out from the Albanian keeper. With a teammate staying deep, he was forced to provide width down the right side although his balls from wide areas varied in quality. Replaced for the final quarter-hour. Six

The captain The decisive figure scoring two more goals for his country. His first a classic close-range tap-in and the second a superb header having drifted away from his marker. Aged 32, his form is unwavering and the side have every chance in future competitions with him leading the line. 8/10

Eberechi Eze Had difficulty to influence play from the left. Was presented with a presentable chance when set up by Bellingham but Strakosha kept it out. His replacement produced a bigger effect when substituted. 5
