The teenager has featured in seven matches for Real Madrid, including five starts.

Whenever a teenage creates Real Madrid a historic moment in a pivotal Champions League match against City, it naturally attracts acclaim and attention.

During his maiden start in the competition - and fifth game for the club - the young midfielder made a strong impression as the fifteen-time European champions claimed a 3-0 round of 16 first-leg advantage at the Bernabeu.

The teenager, who also had his Real debut in the qualifying round a month ago with a substitute appearance at Sporting Lisbon, then assisted Los Blancos defeat the English champions in the midweek return to confirm a quarter-final berth.

At 18 years and 226 days, Pitarch became the club's most youthful starter to start twice in the Champions League's latter rounds, surpassing Brazil forward Vinicius Jr's record by 10 days.

A Meteoric Rise Through La Fabrica

This talent is the most recent to emerge from the famed youth system and is rapidly cementing himself as one of the manager's most promising young players.

He joined Madrid from Leganes in the summer of 2023, having formerly spent time at Atletico and Getafe's academies, and starting out for the under-19 side, where he rapidly created a strong impression.

Pitarch progressed to the reserve side and it was in a friendly match in which they played against the academy's first team, then coached by Arbeloa, where the youngster is said to have drawn the eye of the current Real boss, who replaced Xabi Alonso in the new year.

Reports would later describe the moment as "love at first sight," adding Pitarch stood out not only for his skill on the ball, but for the energy, character and drive he brought to the team.

'His Best Attribute Is His Character'

During the pre-season of 2025, ex-manager Alonso invited Pitarch to practice with the senior squad and awarded him minutes during the warm-up matches.

However, it was the change in manager that proved the turning point in his development as he was introduced as a second-half replacement in both ties against Benfica that led to the meeting with Manchester City.

"I have dreamed of this each night when sleeping, the first day I began playing the game, each day you go to train and each day you play a match," stated the player following his first appearance.

"I've just fulfilled my dream with the best team in the world and in the top tournament."

Handed a first start in La Liga against Getafe - where he spent several seasons after arriving from Atletico in 2018 - he has kept his spot for the next four as fitness issues to Bellingham and Ceballos created an opportunity.

The teenager has taken it with performances that have belied his age and inexperience.

"He's a extremely fast player, and you can observe what he's capable of," said Arbeloa. "He is extremely energetic, with great endurance, effort and mobility."

The player's mindset has also impressed his coach.

"His standout trait is his personality," added he. "He always wants the possession, and even under pressure, he remains unfazed.

"I realize fans might be astonished to see him start in a Champions League match, but he is selected because I had total confidence in him to perform what he usually does.

"He will keep receiving chances with the main squad. It is delightful to have a player like him."

A Future International Decision

Pitarch was born in Fuenlabrada, in the Madrid region, and was raised fully immersed in Spanish football, progressing through local academies before entering Real Madrid's famous youth academy.

He holds dual Spanish and Moroccan citizenship, offering him the choice to represent either country at senior international level.

Under Fifa eligibility rules, players may represent multiple nations at youth level without being locked in, with the final decision only final once they play in a official senior international match.

Pitarch has featured for the Spanish national team at youth level, representing both the U19 and under-20 sides, and took part in the 2025 Youth World Cup, where La Roja reached the quarter-finals.

Nevertheless, he has not yet decided to any senior national team, who are watching his rise with interest.

Speaking recently, the player said: "I haven't made my ultimate choice yet. Things are positive with Spain, but I'll make a conclusion in the near future."

This scenario mirrors that of other bi-national talents such as Real team-mate Diaz and Barca star Lamine Yamal. While teenage Yamal opted for Spain, Brahim decided to represent the Atlas Lions.

Focus on the Future

For now, Pitarch's focus is on establishing himself in the Real side and rewarding his manager's belief.

He played 74 minutes in the 2-1 victory at City, which completed a 5-1 overall triumph and a last-eight tie with the German champions.

He was replaced by another academy player in Manuel Angel underscored Arbeloa's trust in the next generation to aid the club chase trophies to come.

Following his notable contributions to date on European football's biggest stage, the midfielder is tipped to be a central figure in that.

"The manager treats me the same. We handle it very normally. I try not to think about it too much - I have to earn my playing time on the field," he said after the win at Etihad Stadium.
